Akemi Power Generation Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture; President and CEO: Kenji Iguchi; hereinafter "Akemi Power Generation"), a consolidated subsidiary of Akemi Electric Power, Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Nobuhiko Takamatsu; hereinafter "Topy Industries") ) has started power generation using “biomass solid fuel” manufactured from raw garbage and sewage sludge in Toyohashi City. Approximately 1,000 tons per year are planned to be co-combusted with coal.

Biomass solid fuel is manufactured by drying and carbonizing garbage and sewage sludge. It can be used as an alternative fuel to coal, producing only about two-thirds the amount of heat produced by coal, but because it is made from biomass resources, it contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions as a carbon-neutral fuel. Akemi Power Generation will contribute to the local production and local consumption of energy by utilizing the biomass solid fuel produced by the Toyohashi Biomass Utilization Center.

Akemi Power Generation expects to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 0.2% compared to FY2021 by using biomass solid fuel.
