Topy Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO and CEO: Hiromi Ishii; hereinafter referred to as "Topy Industries") has signed an agreement to invest in Kinotech Corporation (Representative Director, President and CEO: Shuji Mori; hereinafter referred to as "Kinotech") and to conduct joint research on the development of the "New Kinotech Method" for recycling zinc from electric arc furnace dust, and the joint research began in September.

Kinotech's mission is to develop the new Kinotech method (direct alkaline leaching electrolysis method) and to popularize and deploy it worldwide, with the aim of realizing a circular economy.*1 This technology is an innovative method for regenerating high-purity zinc directly from electric furnace dust generated when melting steel scrap in an electric furnace, and is expected to significantly reduce environmental impact and costs compared to conventional methods.

In recent years, new business models that balance circular economy with business profits have been gaining attention, and Topy Industries supports Kinotech's mission and has decided to invest in the company and participate in demonstration experiments at a pilot plant with a view to commercializing the new Kinotech method in large-scale commercial plants. The practical application of the new Kinotech method is an essential technological development for realizing a circular economy in the electric furnace industry, and through this joint research, Topy Industries will work toward commercialization and contribute to the realization of a sustainable resource-recycling-based society.

*1 An economy that seeks to maximize added value through services, etc., while promoting efficient and circular use of resources at every stage of the market life cycle and making effective use of stock, rather than the conventional one-way economy of mass production, mass consumption, and mass waste.
