Topy Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiromi Ishii; hereinafter referred to as "Topy Industries") has acquired "SuMPO EPD"*1 (formerly EcoLeaf) certification for one flat steel product, based on the SuMPO Environmental Label Program of the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization (SuMPO). This brings the number of Topy Industries' SuMPO EPD certified products to seven*2.

SuMPO EPD is one of the certification systems for environmental product declarations (EPD) that quantitatively discloses environmental information for the entire life cycle of a product, from resource extraction to manufacturing, distribution, use, disposal, and recycling, using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. This certification allows customers to objectively evaluate the environmental impact of products and use it as a basis for making decisions when purchasing environmentally friendly products.

The flat steel products that have been certified this time are hot-rolled steel materials with a rectangular cross section, and are used in a wide range of fields, including architecture, bridges, shipbuilding, construction machinery, etc. For example, if a certain number or more of SuMPO EPD-certified products are used in a building, there are benefits such as additional points being awarded when applying for LEED*3 certification.
The Topy Industries Group will continue to engage in environmentally friendly manufacturing, while proactively promoting efforts to expand the range of environmentally certified products and reduce the environmental impact.

*1 A Type III environmental declaration that complies with the international standard ISO 14025 and is one of the EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations). The name will be changed from "EcoLeaf" to "SuMPO EPD" in April 2024.
*2 flat steel, H section steel, angle section steel, channel steel, forklift mast rail materials, deformed steel bars (straightened bars), deformed steel bars (TACoil).
*3 LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design): An international performance evaluation system established in the United States to evaluate the built environment of buildings and cities.
